A Message from Mr. Portzline and Mrs. Mix

As we move into fall, the students are really getting into the swing of things! They have been earning thousands of PBIS points across the building, working toward our school wide goal which will earn them a celebration! We have been in all of the classrooms and see the wonderful work of our teachers and the amazing learning that is happening for each student!

3rd Grade Trip to the Farm!

3rd-grade students across the district attended an annual trip to the farm for Mifflin County Farm Bureau's 3rd-grade Ag Tour! Mr. Cramer, Mr. Pearce, Mrs. Gipe, Miss Attick, and Mrs. Nulton's students had the privilege of visiting stations and learning all about farming and how it impacts much of what they do each and every day. It's a great experience that the Farm Bureau gives to our 3rd graders each year. They put in a lot of time and effort to create the station schedule that shows our students just how much goes into operating the farm. Thank you to Goss Farm for hosting our students and giving them a wonderful learning opportunity!

5th Grade Outdoor School

Outdoor School is a learning opportunity that our 5th-grade students get to explore. The program is facilitated by Penn State counselors. Students stay a few days and nights at Camp Blue Diamond and participate in a variety of learning experiences that focus on better understanding the Earth's natural systems and the relationships between human lifestyle choices, their effect upon the Earth’s natural systems, leading to positive changes in values and behavior, as well as building personal confidence and positive self-image. This experience is something that students remember for a long time.
Students will depart from school on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, and return on Friday, October 16.

School-Wide Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions (PBIS)

We are consistently rewarding our students for demonstrating our school wide rules:
-Respectful
-Responsible
-Ready
-Safe
You may hear your student say they earned points at school. Each student will have the opportunity to earn points on a daily basis for following the school wide rules. Those points can then be redeemed at our online school store! Students will shop while at school and those items will be delivered directly to their classroom.

Read-A-Thon

Our Read-A-Thon is off to a great start. Thank you to all the families participating and to all our business sponsors. All the money raised through our Read-A-Thon goes back to our students. It's not too late to sign up and earn minutes reading to help our school reach its reading goal of 125,000 minutes. The Read-A-Thon will wrap up on Monday, October 5th.

How to turn in excuses

-Drop it off at the school.
-Submit a note on Parent Square.

-Calling the office does NOT count as the excuse. We must have written documentation.

PBIS Kick- Off To a New School Year

Our PBIS Kick-Off gave students an opportunity to learn about our school-wide expectations for being respectful, ready, responsible, and safe. Students participated in activities and discussions that helped them understand what these expectations look like in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and other areas of the school. We emphasized that making positive choices and treating others with kindness and respect helps create a safe and supportive learning environment for everyone. We are excited to continue reinforcing these expectations throughout the school year and celebrating our students for demonstrating positive behaviors.

Safety Drill

IVEC will be conducting a routine lockdown drill in the first week of October. Students will be informed that it is a drill. You may see emergency personnel at the school because they have been invited to participate. We practice these drills to promote a safe school environment. We will notify families after we complete the drill, so you are aware when it took place.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are reminding all students and families that nicotine pouches and other pouch products are not permitted at school. Students should not bring, possess, share, or use these products anywhere on school property, including classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, buses, or school-sponsored activities.
This rule is in place to help maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment for all students. We ask that parents/guardians please talk with their child about this expectation and check that these products are not brought to school.
If a student is found with a prohibited pouch product, the school will follow the appropriate school policies and disciplinary procedures.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain a safe and positive school environment for all students.

Sincerely,
Mr. Portzline and Mrs. Mix
