Day 71
Cycle Day 5
The Mifflin County High School Marching Band traveled to Kemp Memorial Stadium in Coal Township, PA this past Saturday to compete in the 53rd Annual Black Diamond Cavalcade of Bands hosted by Shamokin Area High School. Mifflin County finished in first place with a score of 79.220. The MCHS Band also won the Specialty Awards for Best Music, Best Visual, Best Color Guard and Best Percussion. The Bloomsburg Area HS Marching Band finished second with a score of 74.495.
Band Director Art Belfiore said, “The band had a great rehearsal Saturday morning. We were concerned the weather would prevent us from being outside for the duration of our rehearsal but the weather held. On top of that the students got home late from the football game on Friday and had to come in early. The showed up ready to rehearse and worked hard. That hard work paid off Saturday night in Shamokin with their best performance of the season and the highest score at a first competition ever for an MCHS Marching Band. As always seems to be the case they are a young group but are really rehearsing and performing well so far this season.”
Mifflin County competes in the Tournament of Bands, (TOB), Group 3-A Class. Their score of 79.220 puts them in third place overall. Other Group 3-A Class scores are as follows:
The MCHS Marching Band will be competing again next weekend at the Second Annual Green Nation Band Celebration hosted by Donegal HS in Mount Joy, PA. Directions and tickets may be obtained from Art Belfiore at MCHS.
