Cycle Day 4
The Mifflin County High School Marching Band made a return trip to West Shore Stadium at Cedar Cliff High School in Camp Hill, PA on Saturday to compete in the 47th Annual Tournament of Bands, (TOB), Group 3-A Class Atlantic Coast Championships. The MCHS Marching Band finished in second place with a score of 93.180 and the Specialty Award for Best Drum Line. The Group 3-A Class Championship included 17 bands from five states, (PA, NJ, MD, DE and WV). Band Director Art Belfiore commented, “For the third year in a row the band finished the season with their best performance AND they finished in the top 5 once again, (4th in 2017, 1st in 2018 and 2nd this year). That is a major accomplishment and has earned the band recognition and respect throughout PA and Tournament of Bands.” Also, for the second year in a row MCHS is the TOB Group 3-A Class Pennsylvania State Champions. Senior Band member Owen Damicantonio also won a TOB Scholarship of $1000. Owen is the fourth MCHS student to receive a TOB Scholarship at ACC’s.
Belfiore continued by saying, “We could not be more proud of how the students performed on Saturday. On top of the second place finish the percussion section took the Specialty Award for Best Drum Line. It is so nice to see the students in the band get such great recognition. They have worked so hard and have earned every award they received this year. I would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to get the band to where they are, the parents, MC Music Boosters, MCHS, MCJHS and MCSD Administration are so supportive. Principal Mark Crosson and other MCHS Faculty members made the trip to support the band. Community support is the best I have ever experienced in my 39 years of teaching. When we returned to Lewistown last evening we were treated to a victory parade through town by fire company trucks and over 30 cars! You can’t ask for anything better for the students. Thanks go to Lisa Colpetzer for making the arrangements with local officials for the awesome reception. I also really want to thank the band staff for the countless hours of planning and rehearsing they have put in. And last, but not least, I want to thank my wife Pauline for putting up with my schedule. This time of year she is a marching band widow and I appreciate all of her support. Without this level of support from everyone what the students achieved would not have been possible.”
TOB Group 3-A Class Atlantic Coast Championship results are as follows (top 3 of 17 only):
