Cycle Day 6
The Mifflin County High School Marching Band had a “wonderful weekend” in the words of Band Director Art Belfiore. On Friday night the band hosted the Annual Mifflin County Band Reunion where over 55 Alumni from previous Mifflin County schools attended. This year the MCHS and Alumni Band honored former Band Director Mike Wasilko who passed away in March of this year.
Belfiore said, “the Alums arrive between 4-430 PM. We then rehearse for about 1.5 hours to get ready to play in the stands and at halftime. It is an awesome feeling to direct a band of over 110 musicians! It was an especially moving night at Mitchell Field with the Pregame ceremony to honor Harry Aultz and then at halftime to honor Mike. With the team getting their first victory of the season the night could not have ended any better.”
On Saturday the MCHS Band traveled to Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park in Mechanicsburg for the annual Music In The Park Tournament of Bands, (TOB), competition. The MCHS Band brought home their third First Place trophy and the Specialty Awards for Best Drum Line and Best Color Guard in TOB’s Group 3-A Class. The band’s score of 85.835 puts them in third place overall in Group 3-A Class. “The band came in Saturday morning for our rehearsal and I could tell they were ready to continue having a good weekend. They had another stellar rehearsal and performance. We were lucky that the rain held off until our performance was over. After that the show was delayed for about an hour and a half”, said Belfiore.
Scores of other bands from Group 3-A Class are as follows:
The MCHS Marching Band will be in competition again next weekend at the Central Dauphin HS Band Competition in Harrisburg. Information and tickets for the show may be obtained from Art Belfiore at MCHS.
