Students were trained to be peer mediators for the school year. The mediators meet with students having problems with others who cannot solve the conflicts alone. The mediators use a variety of techniques to help those facing conflicts solve their problems without the intervention of adults. Many serious conflicts arise from small problems that were not dealt with appropriately. The mediators help students become aware of techniques that can aid in solving problems before they become serious. The mediators are sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students chosen as having qualities that good mediators usually possess. Mediation sessions consist of the two students having the conflict, one to two mediators, and at least one adult.. The adult, however, is only present as a witness and for the protection of the students involved. The student mediators run the sessions, aiding those being mediated in finding appropriate avenues for solving their problems. Mediators are: 6th grade - 7th grade - 8th grade - Contact Mrs. Warfel, the guidance counselor, for more information. |
