Study Tips

      Use a Long- Range Planner

* Break down "big" assignments into
   as many smaller steps as it takes to
   get the project finished

* Set due dates for each step

* Set the final due date as your last step

What to look for when Proofreading

* Title fits the subject of the paper

* Paper is well organized

* Capital letters, commas, periods, etc.

* Complete sentences - no fragments or
    run-ons

* Paragraph contains one complete
    thought

* Paper remains focused on topic

* Paper contains an opening and
    ending paragraph

* Spelling errors are corrected

* Re-read the paper to make sure it
    makes sense

Make a Checklist for Reports

*A checklist will help you organize
   information so all requirements are
   completed. Include the following
   information:

* Length -How long should the report
    be?

* Typed or handwritten?

* Single spaced or double spaced?

* Due date

* Resource requirements

* Page numbers

* Graphic or illustration requirements

* Proofread

How to Study for Tests

* Determine what the test will cover
   and
organize materials such as class
   notes, worksheets, study
guides,
   homework, quizzes, textbook,
    discussions, videos, etc.

* Schedule study time - DO NOT wait
   until the night before the test to begin
   studying.

* Break information into small bits and

study a little each night.

* Summarize or highlight important
    information.

* Review study questions and prior
    quizzes or tests. This will help review
    the types of tests the teacher usually
    gives.

* Make a sample test. Write down
   questions that might be on the test.

* Spend time on the items you do not
   know. Don't waste valuable study
   time on
items you already know.

* Reread important sections from the
   text. This will help you pick up items
   you missed the first time, or clarify
   things you did not understand
   the first time. Especially read the
   headings, subheadings, charts, maps,
   vocabulary,and chapter summaries.

* Rewrite your notes, excluding
    unnecessary information. This is

especially helpful for open-book
    exams.

* Ask someone to drill you on vocabulary and
   important terms.

* Relax and get a good night's rest
    before an
exam.
