TSA is an organization that was started
by industrial arts teachers who wanted to provide opportunities for their students to be
recognized for their accomplishments. TSA stands for Technology Student Association.
Members have the opportunity share their knowledge of technology through regional, state
and national competitions.
TSA competitions consist of 45 different areas, some being knowledge
based, while others are hands-on. Among the 45 areas is the structural challenge of
building a bridge. This is the area in which SMMS students excelled at last year's
competition. Students will be judged on the weight their bridge holds along with the
overall structural design. Students also have to submit a web page prior to going to the
competition. Members will compete in a problem solving competition called the "Tech
Bowl." This is a face-to-face, head-to-head competition where students need to answer
questions in any area from architecture, to engineering, to design, to computers, to
tools!
