Meet Mr. Styers
My name is Terry Styers and I am
happy to be serving as the principal for both Strodes Mills Elementary School
and Strodes Mills Middle School. This year marks my thirty first year as a
professional educator. I am a member of the community and reside at 29 White
Pine Lane, McVeytown. I have
admired the beauty of Ferguson Valley since first coming to the area sixteen
years ago and am happy to make my home here. My rural roots run deep from my
youth spent in Penns Valley. I spent fifteen years in the rural communities of
South Carolina where I taught and coached football; girls and boys track; and
even a little basketball. I guess one might say that I am a country boy at
heart.
I feel fortunate to be part of a
school community that has established a rapport of mutual respect among school
personnel, students, parents, and supportive citizens. I will lead the schools
in embracing the traditions of the past while envisioning the promise for
tomorrow. I believe that school should be a place filled with rigorous learning,
discipline, and fun! It will be a place where your child will feel safe
physically and emotionally, where both rights and responsibilities will be
advocated.
A goal for the Strodes Mills
Schools is to be a place where students discover the possibilities for their
lives, as they become lifelong learners seeking success. I hold high
expectations for myself and for all personnel and students associated with the
Strodes Mills Schools. Many times
the problems of the world beat their way to the classroom door.
Whatever the day brings to greet us at school, we must be competent,
culturally aware, compassionate, and confident enough to meet and overcome the
challenge. For as professional
educators, we are leaders who are role models for each child who enters the
school doors.
My office door is open for
students, teachers, and parents. Clear
and effective communication of both praise and problems will lead to solutions
and appreciation for one another.
