Dear Parent,
It can be very difficult to keep
our children safe today. The older they get and the more they
expand their social circles, the more difficult it can become. As
children begin each new school year, they are likely to meet new
friends. Often they come home requesting to go to a friend’s home
or spend the night. If you don’t know the friends or their parents,
it can cause some anxiety for you as you try to decide how to
respond to your child.
Don’t you wish there were a way
to know that those parents will take care of your child while he/she
is visiting? Would you like to call those parents but don’t have
their contact information or worry that they might be offended or
bothered by your call?
We have a resource to help you.
It is called a Safe Homes Directory. It is simply a listing of
families who are willing to sign a Safe Homes Pledge. By submitting
this pledge, parents are promising to supervise all children in
their home and to make sure that unsafe items like drugs, alcohol
and tobacco will not be accessible to children. These parents sign
the pledge and give their contact information because they want
other parents to call them and to know that their home is a safe
place for other children to visit.
All parents who sign the pledge
are provided with a free copy of the directory. If you would like
your free copy of the 2009-2010 directory, simply complete the
enclosed pledge and return it to Communities That Care (CTC).
We hope that our directory will
lessen some anxiety for you and make it easier for you to talk with
and get to know other parents in your school. We wish you a safe
and happy school year!!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Prough,
Executive Assistant, CTC
