Family Access Announcement

You will notice that a “Health Info” link has now appeared on your Family Access Home Page.  This link provides measurement readings as part of the yearly Pennsylvania Growth Screening Program.  A Body Mass Index, BMI, for age percentile is also showing.  BMI is a method to assess how much an individual’s body weight departs from what is considered normal.

·         BMI  less than 5th percentile = underweight

·         BMI  between 85th and 95th percentile = at risk for overweight

·         BMI  equal to or greater than 95th percentile = overweight

Many factors, such as sports participation or family history, can influence BMI.  BMI is a screening tool and should not be considered a definitive measure of overweight or obesity.  Please share the results of the Growth Screening Program with your child's health care provider.

If you have questions or do not have health insurance or access to health care, please contact the school nurse for information about possible medical services.  As a partner in supporting the health and well-being of your child, we are working to improve nutrition and physical activity.
