MIFFLIN COUNTY CAREER CLUSTERS/PATHWAY

Objectives:

• To raise the level of learning for all students.
   
• To prepare all students for life long learning.
   
• To provide for a system of counseling and management that assists students in choosing a more focused high school curriculum.
   
• To provide for flexibility in career choice and course planning.

Prior to registration for high school, the middle school counselor will meet with all 8th graders in small groups to accomplish the following goals:

1. Identify the students’ natural aptitudes.
2. Identify the students’ interests.
3. Examine the students’ performance.
4. Synthesize this information for realistic career/academic planning and the selection of a career cluster/pathway.

Throughout high school, students will make course selections based on recommendations associated with the career cluster/pathway.

The Mifflin County School District uses the Choices Program as its powerful computerized database to access facts on careers, post-secondary opportunities and financial aid. Students need only to identify an occupation title to be provided facts useful in the planning process.
