LMS 2009-2010

Lewistown Middle School has made considerable gains in raising PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) scores.  Thanks to the hard work of EVERYONE at LMS the total number of students scoring proficient and advanced increased over 10% in both reading and math for the 2008-09 school year.  THIS IS GREAT NEWS FOR LMS!

A change to the MCSD Attendance Policy…

Arrival after 9:30 am is now considered a ˝ day absence.  In previous years the cut-off time was 10:00 am.  Students dismissed before 2:00 pm will be marked as absent ˝ day.  This has not changed.

Unexcused absences…

A written excuse for all absences must be turned in to Mrs. Weston in the main office within 3 days of the absence.  If we do not receive an excuse, the absence will become unlawful.  After 3 unlawful absences a letter is sent home stating such.  Each subsequent unlawful absence will be turned over to District Judge Barbara Clare who will impose appropriate fines and costs.

Unlawful tardies…

Homeroom begins promptly at 8:10 am.  If a student arrives after that time, he must report to the main office and sign in with Mrs. Weston.  After three unlawful tardies I will meet with the student to discuss the tardies.  At four I begin to assign detentions.  If a student is unlawfully tardy 10 times he will be assigned in school suspension.

Early dismissals…

If a student is leaving school during the day for an appointment, a parent or responsible adult must sign the student out in the office.   When returning from the appointment please be sure to have a doctor’s excuse.  Parents do not have to accompany the student into the building when returning.

Cell phones…

Cell phones are to be turned off and locked in lockers for the entire school day.  If a cell phone is discovered it will be turned over to my office.  First offense – pick up by student at the end of the day.  Second offense – a parent has to pick up.  Third offense – detention and parent pick up.  The punishment increases for further offenses.

Dress…

THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING AT LMS!  Although it may get hot, all students must follow the dress code of the MCSD.  Please avoid spaghetti straps, tube tops and muscle shirts.  Bellies should be covered and no undergarments (guys and gals) should be showing.  Rule of thumb for shorts and skirts…no shorter than halfway between the knees and waist.  (MCSD handbook pages 28-29)

Open communication between parents and the school is critical.  Please feel free to call me at any time at 242-5801 ext. 101 or email me at alp54@mcsdk12.org.
