Some children are
nervous and upset and lack confidence to read aloud. Wraith and Deuce are
certified therapy dogs. The dogs serve as attentive but non-judgmental
companions while children practice reading aloud. The therapy dogs don’t
judge, correct, or intimidate and offer unconditional acceptance.
Wraith’s handler is
Mary Price, a retired MCSD teacher. Deuce’s handler is Deb Glenney.
2nd Grader read "Sleeping
Out" and "Chicken for Dinner" to Wraith and Deuce. Here's what a few of
our second graders said about the experience:
"It was A LOT of fun!"
"Yeah, it was totally awesome!"
"We could pet the dogs while we read to them."
