Welcome to Lewistown Elementary School

  • About LES

Lewistown Elementary School (K-3) is a sizable facility that houses a diverse student body of approximately 600 students and 75 dedicated staff. The feel is small, however, with the overarching goal of student development and achievement; send forth literate students who grasp rudimentary mathematics concepts and are equipped with the general background knowledge, skills, and values necessary for success at intermediate and middle level academic endeavors. This relatively modest goal can only be achieved with a steadfast emphasis and focus on the absolute requirement that our instruction be individualized; the teaching and learning process customized according to the varying needs of each primary student.
  • About LES

We are pleased to inform you that Lewistown Elementary School will be implementing a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2014-2015 School Year
  • Teachers Prepare

The Mifflin County Elementary School District teachers are hard at work preparing for the upcoming school year. During June, July, and August individuals and teams of teachers have been actively working on defining new curriculum that will guide their teaching. A new resource was needed to support the Reading and Writing curriculum, so elementary staff are attending learning academies to understand how to utilize its new reading program called Benchmark Literacy. This program will help new and experienced teachers develop focused lessons for the whole class and small groups. This will enable all elementary students in the county to experience the same instructional goals no matter which elementary building they attend.

  • LES Fit

At Lewistown Elementary the students (Grades K - 3) can earn either a National Physical Fitness award or a Presidential Physical Fitness Award by attempting to meet the established standards for 5 exercises (90 Degree Push-Ups, Bent Knee Curl-Ups, V-Sit and Reach, Shuttle Run, and a Distance Run of 6 Laps around the gym). The Presidential Physical Fitness Council has established standards for each of these exercises. Both these awards are very difficult to achieve with the Presidential award being the most demanding of the two.
