PSAT/SAT self-help books and CD-roms:

A website that proves useful for viewing a wide assortment of books and CD-roms for PSAT and/or SAT score-boosting activities can be found at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers website.  Click on:

  www.barnesandnoble.com

  • on the homepage, in the left-hand column, click on “Browse All Subjects:

  • on the next page, under the heading of “Reference”, click on Study Guides

  • on the next page, click on SAT/PSAT

Although the site indicates that there are well over 500 titles available under this topic, be aware that not all 500-plus titles listed pertain to the SAT-I test.  Virtually all college-bound students must take the SAT-I’s.  Most students do not need to take the SAT-II’s (which are individual tests in specific high school subjects like English or Chemisty).  Be careful when looking over the list of publications that you are making the correct distinction between SAT-I books and SAT-II books.

Not all the books listed on the website are likely to be in stock at the Barnes and Noble store in State College.   It may be much more convenient to order through the website.

Click on the various titles for a description of each book.  It is recommended that there be a diagnostic feature in any SAT help book/CD that you might buy.   “Diagnostic” refers to the feature that helps you analyze your results and points out to you patterns in your wrong answers.

Finally, don’t wait until a week or two before the SAT testdate to start working on improving your SAT performance.  You need to start several months (at a minimum ! ! !) prior to taking the SAT’s.
