Who: The 6-2
students
What: The
students voted as a class and selected topics that would be debated.
Some of the topics included: Should the US drill for more oil
in Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge? Should College Athletes
get paid? Year-round school vs. 9 months of school?
Where: The
debates were held on stage in the IVMS auditorium.
When: The
debates took place on
May 23.
Why: The
students used a variety of skills to complete the debate assignment.
The began by voting to see for which side of the issue they would
fight. After deciding, each group then selected a leader/ president to
make sure that each member was involved and on task. After selecting
a president, they selected 5 students from their group who would go
up on the stage. Next was 2-3 days of internet research and
preparation. On the fourth day, the students participated in a "mock
debate" so that they would be familiar with the format that would be
followed on Friday.
