HIT for the Providence Friars who knocked off the
#1 Pitt Panthers in their February 24 match-up at the Dunkin’
Donuts Center. The Friars, who improved to (16-11) after their
victory, picked up their first victory against a top-ranked
opponent since 1976. However, an additional, maybe a larger
cheer is also due to Providence for having the guts to name a
sporting center after America’s favorite fattening pastry.
MISS for President Obama on seeing fit to reinstate an
assault weapon ban that expired in 2004. With today’s economic
troubles, an assault weapon ban should be the least of our
president’s worries. Moreover, Obama’s reasoning is extremely
flawed. Obama has stated that a ban on assault weapons will
decrease the flow of drug-related weapons to Mexico.
Unfortunately, the last time we checked, the drug flow from the
US to Mexico is illegal. Somehow, I have my doubts that
international drug dealers are going to follow Obama’s foolish
gun regulations. In a business which lies solely in the black
market, the assault weapons that drug traffickers receive are
part of that same black market. And, unfortunately, federal gun
regulations are not exactly taken seriously by America’s finest
black marketers.

HIT for The Beatles.
Although the band is no longer together, the White Album is
still selling at record numbers. It is the best-selling album of
the 1960’s. The Beatles dominated music across the globe, not
just the nation. At a time when music was just evolving, The
Beatles’ 1968 album is one of the best of all time, and it will
never be forgotten. Cheers to Ringo, John, Paul and George for
being part of the greatest band in the history of the music
industry. May your legacy live on forever.
MISS for American Idol. If there is a show on TV that
shouldn’t be, this is definitely the one. The show captures the
attention of millions with every episode, and every year it’s
the same thing. There are a couple good singers, but mostly the
show consists of annoying “performers” who know they don’t
belong on television. This year they cut down on showing the
incompetent people, the one part of the show I would consider
watching. So MISS for you, American Idol, for having the
most repetitious show out there, and the most annoying panel of
judges.

HIT for President Obama for
asking for $200 million in war spending. Who would have thought
that he, of all people, would ask for money in order to end a
war?
MISS for the forces responsible the struggling economy
and companies which are taking jobs away from America in order
to send them to cheaper nations. Jobless claims have reached an
all-time high for the last 26 years. No wonder the economy is
struggling.

HIT for Tyler Lofton, age 7,
from Attleboro, Massachusetts. When his father, Tony, fell down
the attic stairs, leaving him bleeding and unconscious, Tyler
calmly called 9-1-1 to save his father’s life. Tony made sure to
commend his son on remaining calm and dealing with the ordeal in
a very mature manner.
MISS for Barack Obama for announcing an 18-month
time-table for troop-withdrawal in Iraq. Times in Iraq are at
their best, and significant progress is being made thanks in
large part to the surge last year. Troop withdrawal will only
destroy the success we have earned over the past year. We are
finally winning the war in Iraq. Let’s stay until the job is
done. Announcements of withdrawal will only spike terroristic
interests in Syria and Iran.

HIT for Nick Schuyler for
literally clinging to life. Schuyler clung to his capsized boat
for almost two days as he and his companions drifted away with
the current into an unforgiving ocean. The timely rescue of
Schuyler was nothing short of miraculous—he had hypothermia and
confusion when pulled from the sea.
MISS for General Motors for declaring that the company
may go bankrupt. One of the few American-based automotive
manufacturers still in existence today, the loss of General
Motors would be a blow to those everywhere who love cars by GM
and work for the company. Even if economic times are difficult,
GM should perhaps consider a temporary shutdown of production
instead of a permanent termination of the corporation.

HIT for the Jonas Brothers.
The JoBros went to visit the terminally ill, 9-year-old Jayla
Cooper. Cooper was diagnosed with leukemia and has only weeks to
live. Her last wish was to “marry” her 7-year-old friend who is
also battling the disease. Their “wedding” song was Love Bug by
the Jonas Brothers. When the group learned about Cooper, they
made a surprise visit to see her.
MISS for Chris Brown for even trying to go near Rhianna
after severely abusing her the night before the Grammy’s.
Reports indicate that the two are back together now. Rhianna’s
family is not happy, and with good reason. Once an abuser,
always an abuser.
