Indian Valley High School opened in 1989 as a result
of District reorganization and houses grades 9-12, with an enrollment of
roughly 980 students. In addition to the standard curriculum, students
are provided the opportunity for additional study in all core academic areas
through Advanced Placement courses; art; music; drama; school-to-work;
enrichment; distance learning; foreign language; media including film and
television, career exploration, extensive technology opportunities,
including the Internet and values educational trips to experience learning
first hand. Opportunities are also provided in numerous clubs, Band, Chorus,
community service, vocational programs ranging from agriculture to various
trades and industry.
Interscholastic Sports have always been a strength
at Indian Valley offering 15 varsity sports and 7 junior high programs that
feed the high school. IVHS is a member of the Mountain League, a 12
school organization with two divisions in the conference. Member
schools include: Bald Eagle Area, Bellefonte, Central Martinsburg, Central
Mountain, Clearfield, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lewistown Area, Penns Valley,
Philipsburg, and Tyrone. Indian Valley topped the league as the Summit
Award winner in 2009 as the program with the best winning percentage across
all sports.
Stakeholders are active in the school community and
parents, local businesses, and students themselves take pride in what Indian
Valley can provide.
In 2011, IVHS will make a move across the parking
lot with the addition of a brand new, state-of-the-art building set to open
in January. The building, designed by teachers who understand the
importance of education, will facilitate Indian Valley’s continuing journey
into the 21st century.
