THOMAS EDISON ASSEMBLY
'07
On
Wednesday, October 24th, 2007, Thomas Alva Edison came alive
at our school through an authentic costumed portrayal of the world's greatest
inventor. This 45 minute presentation highlighted Edison's life and
accomplishments, including his "Menlo Park Lab" and "the boys" that helped
Edison create so many of his successful inventions. Students from the audience
assisted Mr. Edison in demonstrating many of his most famous inventions.
Students had an opportunity to participate in this program through the various
hands-on demonstrations of static electricity, send an actual message on a
telegraph key, or operate the hand crank generator to actually light a series of
light bulbs. Students also saw a demonstration of Edison’s first light bulb (an
authentic replica) and an original 90 year old Edison cylinder phonograph. The
results were not only educational and informational, but it was entertaining and
fun at the same time.
