HAIKU

Written By Mrs. Carolus's Fourth Grade Students

The students in Mrs. Carolus’ fourth grade class read a story about a Japanese poet of the 17th century named Basho. He traveled across Japan writing haiku about the things that he experienced. Haiku is poetry that is usually about nature and involves the senses. They learned that haiku has a total of 17 syllables, with 5 in the first line, 7 in the second, and 5 in the third. Then they tried their hand at writing haiku.
