OUTDOOR SCHOOL

DAY 3

[DAY 1 / DAY 2 / DAY 3 ]

[DAY 4]

Thursday, April 24, 2008

We awoke Thursday morning to sun and a clear sky, honking geese and mist coming off the lake.  After a breakfast of  Egg & Cheese Muffins, and the breakfast bar, everyone once again set out for their morning lessons. One game we played during our lessons was called "Oh Deer" where we had to find the resources to keep us alive. Two learning groups once again worked on cycles, etc. while the other two groups did water study.  After morning lessons, we all enjoyed a lunch of Hamburgers, Nachos with cheese sauce, carrots. and salad bar. After lunch, Monaken (Mr. Naylor) and Iris (Mrs. Filson) led us in "Teacher Time where we used six hula-hoops to play a running game.   After teacher time, we journeyed back into the past for our "Then & Now" lessons. We had fun at "liars club" where we had to guess which person was telling the truth. We  made candles and butter and spun wool in the Pioneer Kitchen. We also went to an old pioneer wood working station. Another interesting station was the "Pioneer Toy" station where we got to play with some pioneer toys.  We had a great time!  After we got back to Outdoor School and some "solo" time, we munched out on rotini pasta & rolls, along with the salad bar.  After dinner we had an old fashion "Hoe Down," where we did the Hokey Pokey, the Chicken Dance, The Patty-Cake Polka, the Bunny Hop, the Limbo,  the Cha-Cha slide, the Cotton-eyed Joe, and some free style dancing.  Afterward we had a super delicious chocolate-marshmallow treat and had lots of water. After the Hoedown we went for our last campfire of the night. We all got to sing  many fun songs.  The counselors did a skit called "The Camper,"  that caused us all to laugh, and another skit that was called the "Banana Skit." We were sad after campfire because Monaken also sang us a song called "Today"  that made many of us cry because our week at Outdoor School was almost over. Palomino also recited the "Lorax" for us, and all the counselors sang "Softly Falls the Night of Day" that once again made us sad because Outdoor School was coming to an end. We were all pretty tired after a long and wonderful day.
