Nature Lodge at Camp Blue Diamond |
Wednesday, April 23, 2008
After our first night's stay at ODS, we all awakened to a sunny
morning at Outdoor School. Breakfast consisted of Hot Cakes &
Sausage, and a breakfast bar containing
many different kinds of cereal and fruit. After
breakfast we started our lessons of the day. Two learning groups went to water
study, and two groups learned about cycles, soil and photosynthesis (to
name a few). During water study we got to catch and observe such things as
Mayflies, Stoneflies, Crayfish, Salamanders, Hellgrammites, etc. In our
other lessons we learned about the soil, cycles, and adaptations and played many
fun games as part of these lessons. During cabin time last night and during our
cabin time this
afternoon, we all wrote a letter to our parents saying how much fun we were
having. Monaken took our letters to
the Petersburg Post Office after lunch. Our lunch consisted of Toasted Cheese
Sandwiches and Tomato Soup, along with the usual salad
bar. After lunch, we had some cabin time and got ready for our "Living
Things" lessons.. We saw many interesting things during these lessons. We got
to see a Black Rat Snake, a turtle, and a toad. We also saw a
Screech
Owl. We got to see and touch many things during this lesson, including a beaver
fur. After
our lessons, and after a little "solo time"
we all had a delicious dinner of Noodles and McRibs, Green Beans, along
with the usual salad bar. We had a great big brownie for dessert!! After
dinner and some more group games, we headed for the campfire. We had a
great campfire singing many songs, including "Old Lady Leary"
We also got to see smoke painting again. The counselors
put on a skit called the The Invisible Bench. It was really funny.
The counselors did another skit called "the Toxic Cookie Skit." We also had another
weather skit.. After campfire we
went on a wonderful "Night Hike" and became creatures of night, using all our
senses. We discovered "moon rocks.". We then settled into our cabins for a good
night's sleep. We were all really tired. We certainly had another exciting
and sunny day. It was hard to believe that Outdoor School was now half over.
