LMS Student
Poster on Display at State Capital in
October |
 |
Kevin
Cahill, a 7th grade student at Lewistown
Middle School, has recently been named as
one of the top entries in the 2008 Alcohol
Awareness Poster Contest. This contest
challenged students of all ages to create a
poster discouraging underage drinking. This
year, more than 1,600 entries were submitted
to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
Only fifty-seven students were chosen as
award winners.
For his efforts, Kevin has been awarded a
$50 Savings Bond, and has been invited to a
ceremony at the Capitol Rotunda in
Harrisburg on October 21, 2008. In addition,
Kevin's poster, along with all the winning
entries from the 2008 alcohol awareness
poster contest, will be on exhibit at the
Capital from October 14-24, 2008.
Congratulations Kevin! LMS and MCSD are
proud of you!

LAHS Key Club Places 2nd
in International Competition |
| |

Brooke Hackenberg (immediate past
President), Jordan Marinos ( immediate past
Vice-President)
Members of the 2007-08 Key
Club undertook a project to help students in
a Russian school in Afghanistan with school
supplies and hygiene articles such as
toothbrushes and toothpaste. The club sold
ornaments which were created by the Art Club
for a Christmas tree in the main lobby of
LAHS with donated supplies from the students
and staff at LAHS. The proceeds from the
sale of the ornaments were used to purchase
and send eleven boxes of supplies to LT.
Col. Stephany Hartshirn of the 205th RSAC
Navy Garrison, stationed in Khandahar,
Afghanistan.
Complete project information is available
from the LAHS web area.
The LAHS Key Club was awarded 1st Place
at the 62nd Annual Pennsylvania District Key
Club Convention, which was held at Hershey
on February 29-March 2, 2008. The first
place award at the State level advanced the
project into the international competition,
which took place at the International
Convention in Denver, Colorado July 9-13,
2008. Club advisors and members were
notified in late August that their service
project had received 2nd place in the
International Competition.
Congratulations to the 2007-08 Key
Club members, co advisors Randy Fluke and
Vicky Henry, and to ALL the students and
staff at LAHS who helped, not only to make
the project a success, but to give aid to
those in need.
