Armagh and
Brown Elementary Students Selected to
Attend 5th Grade Songfest |

Armagh
Elementary students Casey Dobson and Rebecca
Evanitsky and Brown Elementary students
Casey Damicantonio and Zachary Thomas will
join students from approximately 100 other
fifth grade vocal music students from PMEA
District IV at the 5th Grade Songfest on
Friday, April 3, 2003. This year's festival
will be hosted by East Juniata and will take
place at E. Juniata High School. The
students have been rehearsing with their
teacher, Mrs. Lori Thomas in preparation for
a evening concert.. Prior to the evening
concert, the student chorus will have an
intensive day of rehearsing with their guest
conductor. Congratulations to the students
from Armagh and Brown Elementary Schools.

Receives Certificate from PDE |

On
March 6, 2009, Dr. Linda Mohler, an
administrator for the Mifflin County School
District, was among 18 school administrators
in the region who received a certificate for
completing Leadership Essentials for
Administrative Development of the
Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership Program.
This seven-day course focused on
Pennsylvania’s three Core Standards for
school administrators.
- The leader has the knowledge and
skills to think and plan strategically,
creating an organizational vision around
personalized student success.
- The leader is grounded in
standards-based theory and design and is
able to transfer knowledge to his/her
job as the architect of standards-based
reform in the school.
- The leader knows how to access and
use appropriate data to inform
decision-making at all levels of the
system.

Coordinator, and Pat Crawford, program
facilitator, presented the certificate on
behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of
Education.

LES Students Selected

Lewistown Elementary School 5th-graders
Brittany Miller, Cody Fryer and Emma
Michalchik will attend the PMEA Elementary
Song Fest, to be held at East Juniata High
School on Friday, April 3rd, 2009. The Song
Fest is an all-day festival in which the
children rehearse music that they have
practiced in their home schools with over
100 other children from schools in central
PA. In the evening they will present a
public concert at the high school. LES
congratulates Brittany, Cody and Emma!

IVHS Student Named
to 2009 All-State Indoor Track and Field
Team |

Bree Shugarts, an Indian
Valley High School student, has been named
to the 2009 All-State Indoor Track and Field
team. She received this honor based upon her
performances throughout the season as well
as her 3rd place finish in this year's PTFCA
Indoor Track and Field State Meet which was
held at Penn State University on February
21, 2009. Her time of 2:13.95 in the 800
meter run established a new school and
county record. The time also has earned her
a NATIONAL ranking of 11th NATIONALLY!

Congratulations to Bree, her family, fellow
track team members and coaches. Continued
success with the Spring track season.

The IVMS True
Warrior Award is a student recognition
program that acknowledges students for good
effort, attitude and ethics (True Warriors
don't have to be straight A students but are
students that try hard, are well behaved and
pleasant to have in class.) The top two vote
recipients per team will be awarded. Images

administrator for the Mifflin County School
District, was among 35 school administrators
in the region who received a certificate for
completing National Institute of School
Leadership Courses 1, World-Class Schooling:
Vision and Goals, of the Pennsylvania
Inspired Leadership Program.
This eight-day course focused on

Scrimmage Team Moves on to "Great Eight"
Tournament (Division 3) |

Congratulations
to the Lewistown Area High School Scholastic
Scrimmage team who defeated West Perry 230 –
215. This means that they have made it to
the "Great Eight" Tournament! You can see
our stellar academic students in action as
they will appear on WPSU (Channel 3) on
Saturday March 7th at 6:00 p.m. Our next
competition will on March 17th, 2009.

IVHS and LAHS
Choral Students Advance to All-State Music
Conference |

Six choral
students from the Mifflin County School
District have qualified to advance to the
PMEA All-State music conference at Valley
Forge, PA in April, 2009. To qualify for
All-State Choir, each student had to
audition/compete in his/her section of 22 or
23 at the recent Regional III Chorus
Festival, which was held at Juniata High
School, February 18 - February 21, 2009, and
place 4th or higher in their section. The
Choir will be part of the Pennsylvania Music
Educators Association State Conference which
will include a professional conference for
music educators as well as State Choir,
Band, Orchestra and Instrumental and Vocal
Jazz. The All-State music conference will be
held from April 22-25 at Valley Forge, PA.
