Participate in PMEA
Songfest |
| |
The
PMEA District IV
Songfest was held
this past Friday,
April 13th at Penns
Valley High School.
Over 200 students
from about 30
elementary schools
Participated in the
Friday evening
concert. The festival
was directed by Mrs.
Patty Beggs from
State College and
hosted by Evie
Mugridge and Shannon
Henry from the Penns
Valley School
District. The
following HPAE
students represented
their school at the
festival: Gage Baumgardner,
Marc Auker, Mr.
Baylor, Breanna
Sunderland, and
Kelsey Henry

Friday the
13th was a lucky day
for one particular
student from Highland
Park Elementary.
Twenty Five students
were auditioned for a
solo in the concert's
final song
"Everlasting Melody".
The student selected was
Marc Auker.

summer.

Mary
‘Maggie’ Seay,
teaches Senior
English at Indian
Valley High School
and is also the
director of the drama
program at IVHS. Mrs.
Seay is enrolled as a
graduate student in
the Ashland Center
for Theatre Studies
at Southern Oregon
University. The
graduate program is
an intense program
specifically designed
for high school and
community college
theatre teachers.
Each year, only
twenty new graduate
students are selected
to participate in the
Master in Theatre
Education program at
SOU. Recently, Mrs.
Seay received the
2007 Summer Theatre
Directory of
DRAMATICS, a
special issue of the
magazine that
highlights
outstanding summer
work, study and play
opportunities for
theatre students and
educators. The
Ashland Center for
Theatre Studies,
specifically Mrs.
Seay’s group, was
highlighted with
articles and
snapshots in the
nationally
distributed magazine.
Mrs. Seay was very
pleased to see that
one of her former
drama students, Ian
Ostrowski was also
pictured in the
DRAMATICS
magazine in an ad for
the American
Shakespeare Center’s
"Young Company
Theatre Camp in
Staunton, Virginia.
Ian is theatre
graduate of East
Stroudsburg
University.
Continued studies
and success to the
IVHS Drama program
and Mrs. Seay. Mrs.
Seay will leave in
early July for her
second summer of
studies in Oregon.

and Hoops for
Heart |

Highland Park
Area Elementary
School students
raised money for
charity in two
separate fundraising
activities. Students
in grades K-2
participated in the
Jump Rope for
Heart in
which these students
collected over $2,100
in donations and
Students in grades
3-5 participated in
the Hoops for
Heart fund
raiser in which these
students collected
over $1,700 in
donations. Great
job to those who were
involved!!!!

IVMS Math-A-Thon
Raises Money for St.
Jude Children's
Cancer Research
Hospital |

St. Jude
Children's Cancer
Research Hospital
announces the
successful completion
of Math-A-Thon at
Indian Valley Middle
School in Reedsville,
PA. Math-A-Thon is an
educationally based
fund-raising program
in which students
obtain sponsors for
the number of math
problems completed in
special workbooks
provided for students
in grades K-9. The
program is sponsored
nationally by Six
Flags Theme Parks,
who provide free
passes to their parks
for every student
raising $35.00 or
more. The students
who participate in
the program learn to
do more than just
math problems; they
also learn the
importance of helping
children who are less
fortunate than
themselves.

Former LAHS Coach
Inducted into PA
Wrestling Hall of
Fame |
 |
Richard Tressler,
former Lewistown Area
High School Coach,
retired MCSD educator
and two time PA State
Wrestling Champ, was
inducted into the
Pennsylvania
Wrestling Hall of
Fame on March 10,
2007. Mr. Tressler
had a 73-7-1 career
record as a wrestler
for State College
High School, with 66
match wins in a row.
Following high
school, Mr. Tressler
was a four-time
letter winner and
two-time NAIA
National Tournament
Place winner while
wrestling at the
University of
Wisconsin-Superior.

Ken Whitsel and Dick
Tressler
Mr. Tressler
coached in Wisconsin
for five years prior
to coming to the MCSD
as a physical
education teacher. He
coached at LAHS from
1976-1998 with a
185-123-1 record.
During that time he
coached eleven
District 6 champs,
eleven
Central-Northwest
Regional Champs,
twenty-two state
qualifiers, eight
PIAA State place
winners and one PIAA
State Champion – Ken
Whitsel, who is the
current LAHS
wrestling coach. Mr.
Tressler was inducted
into the District 6
Hall of fame in1994.

LAHS Indoor
Drumline Wins Third
Consecutive K. I. D.
A. State Championship |

This past
Saturday, March 31
the LAHS Indoor
Drumline won its 3rd
consecutive K. I. D.
A. State
Championship. The K.
I. D. A.
Championships were
held at Southwestern
High School in
Hanover, PA. The
Drumline will be
performing at the
Lewistown Kid
Connection again this
year on Saturday,
April 28th on the
square. They will
also perform at the
annual LAHS Band
Banquet at the end of
May.

Conditioning Clinic |

John
Haubrick, a faculty
member at the
Lewistown Area High
School and the LAHS
Strength &
Conditioning
Coordinator, has been
selected to present
at the Pennsylvania
Strength &
Conditioning Clinic.
The Clinic will be
held June 22-23, 2007
at Juniata College .
Mr. Haubrick will be
discussing the topic
of “Speed Training
and Agility for High
School Athletes” on
the final day of the
clinic. |
