East Derry Custodian Goes Above and Beyond
Recently, East Derry discovered that their courtyard, a new
addition to their school during recent renovations, was in
terrible condition. After considering several options for
help, our custodian, Craig Matthews, got to work and cleaned
it up! He weeded, thinned out plants that were crowding out
other foliage, and put down plastic and mulch. One of their
third grade teachers, Carrie Stufft, planted some colorful
flowers, and now they are ready to enjoy some outdoor time
in our own courtyard.
Everyone at the school wants to thank Mr. Matthews and
Mrs. Stufft for putting forth the extra effort to make East
Derry beautiful.

East
Derry Shows It CaresIn mid August, a local
family experienced a severe fire that destroyed their home
in the Decatur Township area. Several of the children attend
East Derry Elem. School. Although many organizations were
involved in collecting money, food, clothing, household
articles, etc., East Derry students and staff also wanted to
show their concern for the family by collecting monetary
donations. A special can was placed in the teacher's lounge
on August 30th and a letter was sent home with all the
students at East Derry to notify the parents of their
intentions. East Derry Elementary students and staff
collected money through September the 19th. The money will
be sent in the form of checks to the family.
East Derry students and staff are pleased with the
positive response. Concern for each other demonstrates the
character traits that we are instilling in our children. |
