East Derry 5th Grade Student
Sings National Anthem at IVHS Volleyball Matches.
Miranda
Shoop, a fifth grade student at East Derry Elementary, sings
the National Anthem at all home IVHS JV and Varsity
volleyball games. She got the job because she loves to sing
and has a wonderful voice. Her sister is the manager for the
team and she knew Miranda liked to sing so she asked her if
she would want to do this job. Miranda said she would love
to. The players recently honored her with a t-shirt signed
by the whole team.
Miranda will represent East
Derry at the PMEA 5th Grade Song Fest on April 7, 2006 at
West Branch High School. |

Day of Caring Memorial Garden for
Buchanan Elementary
Mifflin-Juniata Master Gardeners and Mifflin County
Garden Club members joined forces to rejuvenate the Memorial
garden at the front entrance of Buchanan Elementary
School.
The garden began as a small planting in memory of a
student who died. It was then expanded to include memorials
to teachers when they passed away.
Buchanan has been a recipient of the services of the
United Way Day of Caring for the past 4 years. They have
made improvements to the playground and grounds.
This
year Buchanan hosted the Master Gardeners and Garden Club,
who designed the plan, did all the removal/digging and
installed the new garden. Some original plantings were
relocated, a stone walkway to the flagpole and in the garden
was created for easy access, as well as a bench for visitors
to the garden.
A variety of plants were selected so the students and community
could enjoy the garden throughout the growing season.
Thank you Master Gardeners and Garden Club for
spending your "Day of Caring" at Buchanan Elementary.

Lucas
Waddell, a senior at Indian Valley High School has been
named as a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship.
Luke earned a very high score on the PSAT last year. In
fact his score was so high that only 732 students scored
higher, which is quite an achievement when you consider that
