Advances to PMEA All-State Choral Festival
Congratulations to Lewistown Area High School student Ben
Matthews, who placed 3rd chair, Bass II at the PMEA Regional
Chorus Competition. This placement advances Ben to All-State
Choir. To advance to All-State Choir, a student must place
in the top four chairs of his respective section. The
festival for this year is Wednesday, March 29-April 1, 2006.
The concert (including All-State Choir, Wind Ensemble, Band
and Orchestra) will be held beginning at 11:30 AM at North
Penn High School, with the All-State Choir performing first
at 11:30 followed by the Wind Ensemble. The All-State Band
and Orchestra perform beginning at 4:30 in a second concert.
The conductor for the All-State Choir, Dr. Jeffrey Kern, is
from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
Students participating in this years All-State Festival
will audition for next years All-Eastern Choir, which will
be held in Connecticut. This is not easy with a brand new
folder, and less than ten days to learn the music. Since
next year is an All-Eastern year, and Ben will be a senior,
he will fill out an application for the All-Eastern Choir
which is being hosted in Connecticut. Students must have
already gone to All-State Choir, and they also factor in the
All-State audition as well as rankings from other festivals.
