| Indian Valley HS Technology Student
Association (TSA) Recognized Nationally for its Generosity
IVHS
Technology Student Association (TSA) has been recognized in the
Fall 2005 edition of School Scene, the official
on-line newsletter of National TSA, for it recent donation to
the American Red Cross. This donation was presented in response
the the call for assistance from Sandy Honour of the National
TSA office in Reston, Virginia.
The home schools of twenty-eight chapters of the Technology
Student Association were completely destroyed by the hurricanes
which ravaged the Gulf coast states. Many have seen the
devastation of the cities, towns and homes, but little mention
was given to the manner in which these catastrophes damaged the
school and students in the affected communities. The IVHS
Warrior Chapter is proud to be able to lend what little help it
can to the families of its sister chapters.

| 7th Grade SMMS Student Wins New
PlayStation 2
Katie
Ward, a seventh-grade student at SMMS, recently was notified
that she was the recipient of a brand new PS2 Pac-Man World 3
video game from Scholastic MATH in celebration of their 25th
anniversary! To win the prize, Katie had to read an article in
the magazine and complete a series of logical reasoning problems
found in Scholastic MATH, a math magazine geared for middle
school students. Katie’s teacher, Miss Henry, had the students
complete the problems as an in-class group assignment to review
problem-solving and current events. Upon completion of the
problems, Katie had to send her answers into Scholastic MATH.
Katie’s answers were all correct, and she was selected as one of
the 30 lucky winners in the contest. Katie received the video
game along with a congratulatory letter.
Way to go, Katie! |

| Strodes Mills MS Students Assist
with Hurricane Relief Efforts in Alabama.
Tristan
Yeater, Toni Everly, and Mara Sunderland volunteered their time
and energy to the disaster relief efforts taking place in
Alabama over the Thanksgiving holiday. These three girls, along
with the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Organization, spent
three days helping with the demolition of homes that were
flooded and no longer livable, due to Hurricane Katrina. On
Thanksgiving Day they traveled to Biloxi Mississippi to assist
in cooking Thanksgiving meals for the homeless. The experience
has left the girls very thankful for all they have. |

| IVMS Student Council
collects for "Troy's Toys from Heaven"
IVMS was proud to participate in Troy’s Toys from Heaven
during this holiday season. The project was begun by Troy’s
mother as a memorial to him. Mrs. Snook knew that Troy loved
children and that helping the disadvantaged children in this way
would have pleased him.
The Student Council of IVMS decided to charge admission into
their Harvest Dance as either $2 or bring a toy. There were 22
toys collected at the door and about 700 dollars as well! Toys
collected during Spirit week were also added to the cache.
Harrison Walker, Sierra Gill, and Mrs. Shepherd went to the
Milroy Firehouse to help wrap the toys in preparation for
delivery. Even though they worked until after 8:00pm that
evening, they all felt that it was worth all the effort just to
know that someone would have a nicer holiday. A big thanks and
pat on the back to all for your participation and support with
this worthwhile project! GO IV! |
