In second grade we work hard to build fluency and comprehension.
Here are some ideas for all ages to practice at home. You may use
them when reading your weekly reading story or even a bedtime story.
1. 1.
Before reading a story, talk with your child about what they
already know about the topic or theme.
2.
2.
During and after reading encourage your child to make connections to
their own life, other things they have read, and the world around
them.
3.
3.
As you read a story, encourage your child to paint an image in their
head. Have your child create a movie in their mind as you read.
4.
4.
While reading with your child have him or her ask questions, such as
how, what, who, why, and where.
