A MESSAGE FROM OUR FIRST GRADE TEACHERS
Playing
games is a fun and effective way to help your child practice the
skills and ideas that they have been learning in school. A simple
game board drawn on a piece of paper can turn into a race across the
country in which the players have to name the state capitals. Or two
dice can become a fun addition game to see who can roll the pairs
with the sums two through twelve first.
There are also many great educational games and
activities available for free on the internet. Here are a few
websites that you might want to try.

Learning can and should be fun. So maybe next
time your child comes home with new spelling words, a family of math
facts to practice, or a list of states and capitals it doesn’t have
to be a boring assignment. Spice it up with a game and your child is
likely to enjoy learning, learn the information more thoroughly, and
remember the information for a longer period of time. Who knows, you
may even have fun (and learn a few things) too.
