The Penn State Science Lions came
to East Derry on October 3. They are graduate and undergraduate
students at Penn State who are majoring in sciences. They bring their
program to rural schools so the children can see what some scientists do
for a living. This program was on forensic science. The children were
given a worksheet with characteristics of some suspects. After each
station they were to cross off the suspects that were no longer suspects
because of the evidence they found.
The scene of the
crime. A cookie jar is broken and there is some evidence found. A piece
of hair. The children had to look at it under the microscope to see what
color hair it was.
A fingerprint was
found on the cookie jar. It was a whorl. What kind of fingerprint do you
have?
A footprint was also found so a
cast was made and the footprint measured.
