| After reading Extra Cheese Please by Cris Peterson, students
in Mrs. Stufft's class applied their reading, social studies, and
science skills to pro9cess their own batch of cheese.
First, they reviewed all the steps in a process from the book and
placed them in order, along with illustrations into a pizza book called
"Mozzarella's Journey from Cow to Pizza".
Then the class discussed all the careers involved, beginning with the
dairy farmer (producer) until the final product arrived fro the
consumer, that's us, to buy.
Finally, in science class they explored the chemical changes that
took place when heat and rennet were added to milk. Curds and whey began
to form. After removing the whey, the "cheese" was seasoned with salt.
Afterwards, everyone had a chance to give the cheese a taste test. YUM!! |
