Planned Instruction

Title of Planned Instruction:   Wood Technology II

Subject Area:   Science and Technology                    Grade Level:   11-12
Prerequisites: Wood I

Course Description:  This course offers the student the opportunity to explore woodworking technology on a more advanced level. This course requires the student to implement techniques and methods in cabinetmaking technology. Students will be required to design his/her project and generate a set of working plans. Although there are no specified projects, students will work in areas of their choice and be responsible for the completion of the project(s) they select. Each student will be responsible for his/her material expenses.

Required Time:  One year                Course Credit: 1.0

Analyze and apply complex skills needed to process materials in complex manufacturing enterprises.

Apply advanced information collection and communication techniques to successfully convey solutions to specific construction problems.

Assess the importance of capital on specific construction applications.

Analyze the positive and negative qualities of several different types of materials as they would relate to specific construction applications.

District Recommended Instructional Approach For the Course

To Drive Teacher’s Instructional Activities

All students will be presented with an overview of the manufacturing and processes pertaining to the woodworking industry. The instructional methods used to implement this goal include the following:
  • Use of current texts and visual materials
  • Instruction of students through lecture and discussion
  • Providing challenges to complete projects that include teacher-and student-generated plans
  • Enforcing proper and safe use of tools
  • Encouraging responsible use of resources
  • Promoting self-esteem by guiding students to complete tasks that fall within their individual ability level
