Color, Contrast and Dimension in News Design
This is an incredible site. It is an online guide that explains color theory and shows how to use it in design through examples and exercises.

Art Takes Time
This site contains lessons that meet the following National Standards for Visual Arts Education.
  • Understanding the visual arts in "relation" to history and cultures.
  • Making connections between visual arts and other disciplines.

The lessons have been organized in a chronological or timeline approach to art history. The students will see how Art has changed through the years and learn about the artists of that period and culture. The sequential curriculum help students link art with the time and place in which it was created. The lesson plans include the concept, objective, vocabulary, materials, procedures and evaluation.

Van Gogh
Using Van Gogh's painting, Self-Portrait with a Straw Hat (1887), students will discuss critical elements of both the artist's life and his work. They will be given a set of questions to guide them through a critical analysis of the painting, and then participate in related activities across the curriculum, including creating their own self-portraits.
