Are you ready for survivor Pennsylvania-style? Hop on board this web quest to test your skills in the environment, orienteering, conservation, and interdependence. Don’t know what all those words mean?
Then take the challenge!!
The first step is to get from your hometown to the site of the survivor contest. Your point of origin is Lewistown and your destination
(star) is the
Shaver's Creek Outdoor School. Print out a copy of the map.
A. List, in order, underneath the map, the routes/road names you would take to get there and tell the general direction you are traveling.
B. Use the scale to determine the distance in miles and kilometers traveled to get from Lewistown to Shavers Creek Outdoor School.
2.
You are bound to have some problems within your assigned group. There are three ways one can deal with conflicts.
Click on this link to discover the three ways to handle conflicts.
On a separate sheet of paper record your choice for the best way to handle conflicts that may arise and tell why this would be the best choice for the group.
3.
Print the Endangered
Animals/Plant Worksheet. Choose and record the names of four endangered or threatened animals and one endangered plant native to Pennsylvania. Not so fast--One animal per group listed. Place a check in the box after the animal if you think they would live/grow in the Shavers Creek
area (refer to your map)
Choose from these groups of animals
Raptors ( birds of
prey)
Mammals
Reptiles
Amphibians
Plant
4.
Research different types of recycling. Visit Recycle
City to learn more about the types of recycling and how they are accomplished. After spending time in Recycle City, you are to describe two recycling projects that could be implemented. Print the
Recycling Project Worksheet.
5.
Choose a partner to produce the brochure. Use 12/18 inch white paper folded in thirds. Select at least 4 things from your web quest to share. The front panel should include the title, an illustration, and your
names. The inside is up to you. You will present your finished brochure to the class.
Congratulations You are a survivor PA style. You have found your way to Shavers creek, learned how to get along with your group members ( that’s living in harmony),
identified endangered plants and animals that you may see or hear about at Shavers Creek, and
you know a little more about recycling and its benefits. Enjoy your week at Outdoor School. The staff will be impressed with your knowledge.
