Students will create a portfolio of documents and projects that can be used in their classroom incorporating the new features of Microsoft Word and Excel 2007.

Lesson 1 Using the New Features of Word 2007 and the Home Tab
Objectives Class Work Assignment  
• Students will be able to use the new features of Word 2007.
• Students will be able to use the features of the Home Tab.
• Students will create a portfolio (folder) on the server to contain all of their practice documents, notes, websites, etc.
• Students will collaborate to devise classroom projects using Word 2007.
Word Practice Project A
• Document should demonstrate understanding of bullets, numbering, font color, size, and styles, line spacing, styles, and fill.
• Document must be applicable to the classroom
Tech Learning Website
Read and summarize any of the articles from the Tech Learning Educators ezine.
Summary must include:
• Title of article
• Author(s) of article
• Address of the Website
• First paragraph summarizing the main points of the article
• Second paragraph explain how the article impacts you and your teaching.
 
Lesson 2 Using the Insert, Page Layout and View Tabs; Working with Graphics
Objectives Class Work Assignment  
• Students will be able to use the Insert, Drawing Tools, Page Layout, and View Tabs.
• Students will collaborate to devise classroom projects using Word 2007.
 
Word Practice Project B
• Create a practice document using the commands on the Insert, Drawing Tools, Page Layout, and View Tabs
• Document should demonstrate understanding of clip art, smart art, shapes and fill, charts, header or footer, drop cap, symbol
• Document must be applicable to the classroom.

• Students will become familiar with the uses of Excel as a spreadsheet and as a database.
• Students will be able to use the new features of Excel 2007 and the Home and Insert Tabs.
• Students will collaborate to devise classroom projects using Excel 2007.

• Create a practice document that can be used as a Database (includes Student Name, Parent Name, Address, etc.)
Student GradeBook1
• Create a practice document that can be used as a Grade Book (Student Name, Subject, Assignments, Grades)
Excel is Elementary

Lesson 4 Using Excel 2007; Using the Page Layout, Formulas, Data & View Tabs
Objectives Class Work Assignment  
• Students will become familiar with the uses of Excel as a spreadsheet and as a database.
• Students will be able to use Page Layout, Formulas, Data and View Tabs and find the locations of commands from the older version and work with Excel
• Students will be able to create graphs and charts from an Excel document.
 
Student GradeBook2
• Using Student GradeBook1, use formulas to average, add, subtract, and find products and percentages.
• Student GradeBook1, create a graph depicting student grades.

Lesson 5 Using Word Merge with an Excel File; Collaborative Projects and Class Presentations
Objectives Class Work Assignment  
• Students will be able to use both Word and Excel to do a Word Merge creating a form letter and labels.

• Students will work in groups to design a project(s) using Word and Excel that can be integrated into their curriculum

• Students will present their projects to the class

• Students will have a portfolio of Word and Excel projects, a Word Merge document with labels, a record of helpful websites and reviews of those websites including methods to use them in their teaching.

Excel and Word Word Merge
• Using Student Database, create a Word Merge form letter and labels to accompany the letter.

• Collaborative Project• Students will explain and review the project with the class
• Students will be able to explain how the project integrates into their curriculum
• Students will be able to explain what they have learned as they worked on the project.

 WebQuests and Web Projects
The website contains links and descriptions of many web projects and WebQuests. Review the many parts of this website. Summarize one web projects or WebQuest.

• Second paragraph explaining how this project can be used in your classroom and what changes or adaptations you might make.
