Classroom Valentine Parties will be held on February 12 in the

afternoon.  Please be sure to check your student’s book bag or

homework folder for information from the individual teacher.

The next meeting of the Buchanan Home and School Association will be held on

February  16 at 6:30 pm in the School

library.  Please plan to attend.

February is Dental Health Month.  Poor oral health, which can affect how thoroughly you chew food, can also affect your intake of important nutrients needed to maintain a sound heart.  So more than ever it makes good sense to follow the steps recommended to maintain healthy teeth and gums… brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, floss and see your dental professional at least twice a year for cleanings and check-ups. Make good oral health a part of your overall good health.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION:

 Kindergarten Registration for

Buchanan Elementary School will be held on May 6, 2010. Registration forms have been sent home with students. If you have not already filled out a Registration form, you can pick one up in the School Office or www.mcsdk12.org

Kindergarten has been very busy this winter. In language arts, we have been mastering letter names and sounds, rhyming, determining the number of words in a sentence, counting syllables in words, and identifying beginning and ending sounds. We are continuing to work on reading our Kindergarten words and on our Kid Writing skills. Keep practicing at home, too, because what we know we need to know lickety-split!

In math, we are working on graphing, reading and writing the numbers 0-10, and reviewing patterns, sorting, and shapes. The children are becoming very good at interpreting data on a graph, as well as sorting objects by size, kind, shape, and color! Continue to practice these skills at home, too.

February is a special month in Kindergarten. We are preparing to learn about, and celebrate, the 100^th day of school, Groundhog’s Day, Dental Health month, and Valentine’s Day. Look for more information coming home in the days and weeks leading up to each theme. All of these exciting celebrations and themes will certainly make February one of your child’s favorite months in Kindergarten!
