Welcome Back to School!

From:  Mike LaMarca, Principal

Each month I will be sending a newsletter home with your child. I am looking forward to working with you and your child. If you have any questions, contact the school office at 248-0179.

The beginning of a school year can be characterized as ...a new beginning. It is a time for parents and teachers to help students get off to a good start. The following is a  list of a few ways parents can help children have a successful school year:

Establish a bedtime schedule that fits your

· child’s needs

· Limit the time your child uses to play or watch TV

· Model and reinforce good eating habits

· Talk with your child about school on a regular basis

· Read the school handbook to become familiar with school expectations on academic achievement, conduct, dress and other issues

· Become involved with the Home and School Association and other school activities.

When teachers and parents work together, a child’s school experience is a happier and more successful one. Buchanan Elementary has a very dedicated staff; a staff that wants your child to grow  academically and to develop in character.  Let’s work together to make the 2007-08 school year a great one.

Let’s help our children reach for the stars!

Procedures for Visitors

In addition to posted notices at the entrance and by the office door, the following will be the procedures for visitors:

1. After receiving permission to enter the building, the visitor will enter the building.

2. The visitor will report directly to the office.

3. The visitor will explain their business to the secretary of the person on duty.

4. The secretary/person on office duty will help the visitor without disturbance to the teacher.

5. If a parent is requesting to see a teacher, the secretary will look on the schedule to see if the teacher is available.

6. If the teacher is available, the secretary will notify the teacher of the parent’s business and ask the teacher if they can speak to the parent. If the teacher can meet with the parent, the parent will receive a visitor’s pass that they will return upon leaving the building. *Preferable the teacher will come to the office to meet the parent.

7. If the teacher is not available, the secretary will take a message, and the teacher will contact the parent whenever possible.

*Note to parents

It is our desire to help parents at all times. A phone call to the office can save you time and travel. Teachers are not permitted to leave their classroom during instruction time. They will be glad to meet with you when they are available. Request a time to meet with the teacher.

For our children’s safety and to not interrupt instruction, a visitor is not permitted in a classroom without prior approval from the office and the teacher.

Please notify the office in the case of an emergency.

*Volunteers need to be Board approved.

*Classroom helpers need approval by the classroom teachers and the Principal.
