To: Buchanan Fourth & Fifth Grade Parents
 Topic: Shaver’s Creek Contributions
 Date: September 22, 2005

 Parents:

As you know, each year the fifth graders from our school attend the Outdoor School at Shaver’s Creek.  We are scheduled to visit the Outdoor School this year from Tuesdayto Friday, . This unique educational experience includes four days and three nights at the Outdoor School, along with meals and lodging for our students.  The cost of this trip is $135.00 per student or $4320.00 for all thirty-two (32) fifth graders.  As you can see, this is a lot of money to raise, but we have never failed to reach our goal in the past.  We hope to continue that success this year.

This year we will be starting the fund raising in fourth grade as well as fifth.  This will make it easier for the fourth graders because they will have two years to raise the money they need.  We will continue to be diligent in our record keeping. Funds for each student as well as each grade will be kept separate.   In the past we have always had some students who did not contribute any money or participate in sales.  Please do all that you can to help your child in this effort by allowing his or her participation in as many projects as possible.  We will work with you in any way possible, to ensure your child’s participation.

The following is a list of the various projects, or ways to help your child contribute, that will be going on this year.  Please discuss these projects with your child and choose the methods that suit your family best.

Buchanan T-shirt and Sweat Shirt Sale - The fifth graders will be selling Buchanan T-shirts and Sweat shirts sometime this fall.  This sale will be done by taking prepaid orders for each item.  More details on this sale will be forth coming.

Sandwich Sales - These will be held near the beginning of each month and will involve the selling of sandwiches from Wilson’s Store.  The profit for these is about 50%. In other words, for every sandwich your child sells, we would make $1.00.  Information about the first sale is listed at the bottom of next page.

Donations - You and your child can simply donate the necessary amount as  the year progresses.  This can be done by giving so much money a month, biweekly or how ever it suits. A confidential record will be kept of each child's donation by his/her teacher.

Cans - We will be collecting aluminum cans throughout the year, so please send your cans in whenever possible.  Each child that brings in a large garbage bag of cans (80 gallons or larger) will receive a dollar credit towards their total contribution.

Box Tops For Education - As in the past we are collecting box tops from Box Tops for Education from the General Mills Products.  This involves the whole building. Keep on clipping those box tops.

Finally please note these other guidelines concerning our fund raising efforts for this year.

-Failure to make this contribution will not affect your child's participation in the trip, but
does put more of a burden on everyone else.
    - Contributions made by check, or any type of payment by check, should be made payable
             to "Buchanan Elementary."
     - We would like to have all of the money raised for fifth grade before we attend the
             Outdoor  School.
     - Any extra money raised through these projects goes to help the whole group in general.
     - There will be meetings to answer questions, give out permission slips, etc. later
             in the year
     - There may be other projects that are not mentioned in this letter.

Thank you!
