Discussed possibility of purchasing another color printer for the computer room. It will increase the "life" on the first one. 4. Discussed Guided Reading Program(A to Z Reading) Home and School would pay for teacher's membership in this. (will see if teachers have interest) It is an online reading program.
All above to be voted on at next meeting.
Worked out making copies for Home and School. Mrs. Rhodes will help if she can, but will let us know an appropriate time to do so.
We have new title teacher(s) at Brown. We believe there will be one for math and one for reading. More information to follow.
The Before and After School Day Care program will not affect any of our Home and School Activities per Mr. LaMarca.
Brown Elementary Home and School Meeting (Approval to be voted on at October Meeting) Present: Peggy Bargo, Michele McKinney, Jan Kanagy, Peg Fisher, Mike LeMarca, Kari Cullen, Tammy Henry, Karen Ruble, Valerie Collins, Hope Baker, Chris Walker, Chris Olson, Jen McCarter, Melissa Sutton Welcome (Chris Walker): Glad for some new faces....Introduction of Officers Secretary’s Report (Jen McCarter): Reviewed the minutes of the officer’s meeting. Hope Baker made the motion to accept with a second by Melissa Sutton. Treasurer’s Report (Hope Baker): Overviews from last year and so far this year. Peggy Bargo made the motion to accept with a second from Melissa Sutton. Principal/Teacher News: Back to School Night went well. Mr. LeMarca appreciates all that came. Open House is scheduled for October 24th. This will not change for any parades if that is a conflict. Mr. LeMarca asked for approximately $150 for Character Trait Rewards program. It’s a goal setting activity for all the students. If kids reach their goal, prizes would be pencils and magnets. Approved the $150. Special thanks for the teacher gifts last year. Mrs. Crisswell and Mrs Thomas both request a TV. Mrs Johnson and Mrs Esh have already received one from the Home and School. Motion to purchase the TVs made by Peggy Bargo with a second by Peg Fisher. The Budget (Chris Walker reviewed/more familiar with it): Over Budget....but not to worry....moving some of the money around (ie Reading program to Ed. Enrichment) A to Z Reading Program: Mr. Lemarca reviewed this. It’s an online reading program with level books. Helps to improve reading. Easy way to build up a nice library of books. The school district will eventually (nothing concrete yet) go to guided reading, and Brown would be a step ahead. An inexpensive way to get 100s and 100s of books. Approximately $600 for one year’s subscription for all teachers ($60 per teacher). Books would be ours to use in the future. Tammy Henry Testimonial (she worked with the program at Armagh): Books are excellent. Kids feel confident....they can read, it’s on their level. One downside: Assembling the books, may need parent volunteers. Second color printer would aid in printing all the books. Move A to Z reading to Education Enrichment from regular budget. Peggy Bargo motion to move with a second from Tammy Henry. Hope Baker to purchase two folding tables for the school for special programs, etc. Committees: Sign up sheet passed around. Fundraisers: Peggy Bargo and Melissa Sutton kicked off the fall fundraiser with a hoagie sale. Orders are due back on September 21st. They will need people to help organize the hoagies on October 11th from 2 til 6.
Winter fundraiser is slated for poinsettas, but brainstorming on perhaps changing it to pies from the Pie Shoppe. This is still being decided.
Spirit Clothing: We make very little profit on this (basically selling it for what B’s charges us). Discussion as to maybe adding $1.00 for a small profit. This will be decided later.
Membership Drive: Slated for first week of November (8th and 9th)
Santa’s Workshop: Jen McCarter said she would chair the committee with guidance. Slated for December 19th and 20th.
Spring Festival: Slated for May 9th.
Field Day: Slated for May 29th.
Giant Rewards Programs: Hope Baker to chair. Will send out letters to all the parents encouraging them to sign up at the Giant with their bonus cards. It is simple and easy to do. Everyone needs to apply each year. Hope took care of registering our school this year again.
Motion to adjourn by Peg Fisher with a second by Melissa Sutton.
