The Old Reedsville
School - 1896 to 1953

Our school was named for Mifflin County's Brown Township. As early as 1837,
students were attending one room schools throughout the township. Before Brown Elementary
was built, students went to the old Reedsville School, shown above in a 1911 postcard.
Built in 1896, this school served as a high school until 1950. It was located in
Reedsville, at the corner of Walnut and Pearl Streets.
In those early years, elementary students from the one room school houses
eventually came to the high school in Reedsville. By 1953, a new high school was in use
where Indian Valley Middle School is today. Around this same time, the one room schools
were closed and area elementary students came to the Reedsville School for grades one
through six.
