FUNDRAISING: This
committee coordinates the school fundraiser, mainly the Fall Fundraiser, which
typically begins the first week of school. Duties for the chairperson would be
to serve as a contact between the school and various fundraising companies.
Other members would collect order forms and money, or help at pick-up time.
Planning for the new school year begins in the Spring.
SPRING FESTIVAL:
This committee organizes the Spring Festival in May. The chairperson would
supervise the other committees of Games, Kitchen, Raffle, and Soda.
GAMES: Planning begins in March. Order and sort prizes, physically check condition of the games, recruit
volunteers to work the night of the festival, and supervise the games the
night of the festival.
KITCHEN: Plan, order, cook, and serve food, and recruit kitchen
helpers.
RAFFLE: Contact local businesses for prizes. Collect prizes.
Coordinate ticket sales and collect money. Supervise the raffle at the
festival.
SODA: Purchase soda and necessary supplies, and recruit helpers to sell
soda at the festival.
MEMBERSHIP:
Coordinate annual membership drive in early October. Requires about two hours on
two successive days to collect money during lunch periods. Chairperson would
send a letter home with the students in advance of the drive as well as compile
a membership list at the conclusion of the drive.
PLAYGROUND:
Administrate efforts to raise money for our growing playground, as well as order
new pieces of equipment when needed.
SANTA’S
WORKSHOP:
Purchase inexpensive gift items to be sold to students in December as they do
their "Christmas shopping". Planning and purchasing items begin in
November. Requires working two mornings in mid-December to assist students with
their purchases, collect money, and restock the tables with gift items.
PROGRAMS:
Search for and coordinate special programs (music, science, safety,
entertainment, etc.) brought into the school, usually one morning or afternoon
per month, presented as an assembly for the students. These programs should
enhance the students’ learning experience at a grade-school level.
FOURTH GRADE:
Coordinate efforts in preparation for the annual fifth-grade trip to the "Outdoor School" at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center.
Assist with fundraising to offset tuition costs.
BULLETIN BOARD:
Design and change the monthly calendar bulletin board in the all purpose
room.
BOOK FAIR:
Plan and coordinate the annual Book Fair. Chairperson would serve as a contact
between the book company and the school. Others would work the actual days of
the book fair assisting students and teachers with their purchases, collecting
money, and keeping track of re-orders.
FIELD DAY:
Plan and coordinate outdoor games for Field Day in conjunction with teachers'
schedules and input. Usually held on one day at the end of the school year.
Duties would be: organize games and equipment as needed, recruit parent
volunteers to supervise the games, and obtain refreshments for that day.
MEMORY BOOKS:
Collect and sort photographs taken throughout the year that are to be included
in the yearbook. Special work is done on the photo collages, which requires
sorting, cutting and pasting. Work on this project is done at various times in
March, April, and May. Chairperson would be required to inquire at various
publishers about characteristics and costs of the yearbooks.
HOSPITALITY:
Arrange refreshments for evening programs at the school, such as Open House.
SPIRIT CLOTHING: Takes
order, collect money, and arrange pick-up and distribution of "Brown
Elementary" and "Indian Valley" logo clothing. Ordering is
usually done bi-annually.
DOMINO DOTS:
Collect Domino’s Dots from the classrooms on a regular basis, count them, and
send them in for redemption.
CAMPBELL’S LABELS:
Collect labels from the classrooms on a monthly basis, sort, trim, and count
labels. Other duties would be to keep tallies of each classroom’s collected
labels and chart this, as there are rewards for winning each month as well as at
the end of the school year. Chairperson would also contact the County
Observer and coordinate with the school secretary to have the classroom’s
photograph taken.
BOXTOPS FOR
EDUCATION:
Collect Boxtops (from specified grocery items) from the classrooms on a regular
basis, count them, and send them in for redemption. We made over $500 on Boxtops for Education last year.
PUBLICITY: Chairperson
of this committee gathers dates of special events at the school that are
included on a monthly calendar that is sent home with the students. Another duty
is to notify local media of special events, as necessary.
SCIENCE/ART NIGHT:
Plan and organize the Science/Art night held one night a year (usually in the
winter). Distribution of project registration forms and awards, coordinating
space and volunteer help is required.
PHOTOGRAPHER: This
group takes pictures of students to be used in the annual memory book or on
school bulletin boards. Requires ability to attend various school functions and
knowledge of camera use.
