Contact with Parents and the School
We try to accommodate parents when we can,
but we are having three problems:
·
Parents are trying to contact the
school after the secretary is gone for the day. She leaves (by contract) at
3:15 p.m., and the phone rings only in her office. That means that teachers
will not hear it, although the principal will answer it if she hears it. If
you have a complaint or concern, please call first thing the next morning
about 8:00 a.m. If you call the administration building, there is nothing
anyone there can do for you until they communicate with us anyway.
·
Parents are calling to talk to
teachers when they are in class and teaching. We don’t put anyone through at
those times. We have a master list of times when individual teachers are
available, and we will tell you when you may speak with them when you call.
·
Parents are coming to school with
birthday snacks without corresponding with the teacher, who is supposed to
have a snack policy in place. Remember, district policy prohibits us from
celebrating birthdays by shutting down instruction. We are not supposed to
have parties of any kind without approval.

Internet Safety, A Practical Guide for
Parents
A
district wide internet safety program, will be held on November 8, 2007, at
LAHS from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. It will be open to
all parents of elementary, middle and high school students.
The presentation will highlight new and emerging internet
technologies as well as the benefits and concerns of internet use.
Strategies to help parents increase internet safety on their home computers
will be discussed and helpful websites and Tech Tips will be introduced. The
program will include a demonstration of MySpace and Face Book. Methods of
providing a safe internet environment, such as checking web browser history,
scanning for viruses, and monitoring incoming information will also be
discussed.

Questions from the audience will be solicited prior to the program
and there will be a question and answer period and panel discussion
following the presentation.
LAHS Media students will film the event and create a video of the
event. Internet Safety movies, posters, and bumper stickers created by
Strodes Mills Middle School students will be on display and contest winners
will be announced.
There will be refreshments and child care available and door prizes
