Physical Education Classes

Physical Education classes (gym classes) have been working hard since school started.  Grades Kindergarten, First, and Second have been developing locomotor skills and using them in various games.  We also worked on tagging skills in a variety of games.

Grades Third, Fourth and Fifth have enjoyed a variety of activities starting with some football skill activity and moving on to tagging games and other activities stressing teamwork and cooperation.

All grades enjoyed “Turkey Feathers” at Thanksgiving, soccer skill activities and “How the Grinch Did Not Steal Christmas” before the break.

This winter will see us working on some throwing and catching, ball handling and some skill work in basketball and volleyball.

I hope the calendars I send home marking Day Numbers are a help to you in reminding children to wear or bring sneakers for class participation.  Just a reminder when school is canceled the Day Numbers will change.  We never skip a day.

Christmas Ornament Project

Several weeks ago the students at Armagh were asked to make or decorate ornaments for the Milroy Christmas tree, so we sent home a note asking for students to bring in one ornament. Some students did, but most of the ornaments were bought at the Dollar Tree to be used in art class. There have been some students asking when they will have their ornaments returned to take home. The ornaments will be saved by Milroy to use on the tree next year, so they will not be coming home. If that was not your understanding, I apologize for the miscommunication.   Thank you again to all those who contributed.

Ski Club News

Ski club trips to Tussey Mountain Ski Area begin on Friday, January 4, 2008. Eleven 4th and 5th graders from Armagh Elementary are participating in ski club this year. This is an opportunity for students to learn to ski at a reduced cost. A typical ski trip includes a bus ride to Tussey, getting skis, boots and poles in the rental shop and then a lesson that starts with how to put on the skis and how to get up after falling down. After the lesson, skiers go into the lodge to get warm and have a good time eating supper with their friends. Then they hit the slopes again to practice what they learned in their lesson.

Dental Screenings

Dental screenings for students in kindergarten and grade 3, as required by Pennsylvania Law, are scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2008. Only students who have not returned a Private Dental Form will be screened. If your child has been seen by a dentist within the past year and you have not returned a private form, please let me know and I will provide you with the form.  The intent is to screen only those students who have not seen a private dentist. Thank You. R.Yoder RN School Nurse
