Donations of Clothes
Lately, we have had several children who have had accidents here at
school and, as always, we call home for a parent to come and get the
child. However, when we have clean clothes to change into, we try to
make children comfortable while they wait. Sometimes, a child may spill
juice, milk, or some food item on himself/herself and needs only a clean
pair of jeans. We are asking that, if you have outgrown clean clothes
that you could donate to the nurse’s office, we would appreciate them.
Also, if you are inclined to donate new underwear, we will gladly take
that too. We won’t put used panties on children, so they should be brand
new. Thanks for your help.
ON GUARD AGAINST BACTERIA
Patient-safety advocates, government
health specialists and local officials acknowledge that the nation has
not done enough to halt the rapidly rising death rate from a germ that,
despite its resistance to antibiotics, is easy to stop with soap and
water before it burrows into the body.
MSRA is common and relatively harmless when in the nose or on
the skin. The infection may look like a spider bite or a harmless boil,
and such sores may not even require antibiotics to heal. But when it
travels more than skin deep, it can be deadly and difficult to stop with
current medicines.
Although there has been a recent rash of cases in communities
across the country, with school athletes apparently catching the bug
from teammates, the threat from MRSA is greatest- and often starts – in
healthcare settings.
Halting the spread of MRSA in the community, in places such as
schools and public gyms, requires individual effort, specialists say.
Use your own towel; wash your hands before and after you make contact
with someone or their personal possessions; and beware of the presence
of bacteria on computer keyboards and games, and wash accordingly.
Lost and Found
We have many coats, hats, sweatshirts, and other cold weather items that
have made their way into our lost and found box in the cafeteria. If you
are missing any of these items, please pick them up. Shortly, we will be
donating leftover items to a local agency to help children without
adequate clothing.
Staff
of Character
Perhaps you have seen pictures in the newspaper of some of our staff
members who are honored each month. They are nominated by each other for
the good things they see each other do. I believe that the most
important thing we do for your children is to provide good role models
and examples of exemplary character. Our staff works to keep your
children safe in school and to give them the best possible educational
experience.
If
you would like to share something that one of our staff has done that
you believe is extra good or over and above their responsibility, please
feel free to send a note to me stating the good things they have done.
Remember, we honor all of our staff (custodians, cafeteria, special
teachers, etc.) Remind your children to look for good things happening
at school.
Community Projects
We are
privileged to have been able to participate in two projects recently
that benefit the Milroy community. First, we were asked to provide
Christmas tree ornaments for Milroy’s community tree, and our art
teacher, Miss Filson, helped all of our students to paint an ornament to
be used.
Second,
we were asked to provide Christmas cards for our soldiers in Iraq, and I
bought boxes of inexpensive cards for students to write brief notes and
to sign their first names in the cards. One of our mothers is sending
them to her brother, who is serving in Iraq, and he will distribute
them. Messages will be read by the teacher for appropriateness, and no
last names will be given.
Have a safe and restful holiday season!
