The
Board of School Directors of the Mifflin County School District formally
approved a six-year Strategic Plan for the District on September 27,
2007. This Plan will guide the direction of the District from 2007
through 2013, and has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of
Education.
Specific Action Plans in
the Strategic Plan are as follows:
·
Collaborative Relationships
·
Facilities
·
Technology
·
PK – Grade 5 Achievement
·
Middle School Achievement
·
High School Achievement
·
Financial Management
·
Curriculum and Assessment
·
Character Education
·
Professional Education
Each
of the above Plans is carried out by a separate Action Team composed of
parents, teachers, administrators, board members, community members, and
students. Under the direction of an Action Team Leader, they meet at
least twice yearly to review progress on their specific Action Plan.
This progress is reported to the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, and
eventually the Board of School Directors in January, and May of each
year. Changes to any part of the overall Strategic Plan, or individual
Action Plans, are recommended through the Steering Committee to the
Board of School Directors.
Persons interested in reviewing the Strategic Plan in its entirety will
find it on this website.
Parents
Make the Difference
Parents are a child’s most influential
teacher. Children spend the majority of their waking hours under the
guidance of a parent or guardian. There is strong evidence to support
the importance of parental involvement in a child’s education. Here are
some ways you can help:
·
Encourage your child to read
every day. Be a reading role model.
·
Discuss local, state and
national news, and current world events. Relate these discussions to
your family, community and the world.
·
Apply math skills to daily
living.
·
Make sure your child knows
the value of a sound, well-rounded education.
·
Promote regular school
attendance and punctuality.
·
Be a role model that
exemplifies the 12 Traits of Character promoted by our school
district.
·
Establish routines and
expectations that reinforce responsible behavior.
·
Support your child’s
involvement in a variety of school and community activities.
·
Teach your child about the
benefits of good nutrition and daily exercise.
·
Create a love for learning!
