Dr. Grove, from the
Huntingdon Vet Service, is a
veterinarian who specializes
in cows. She talked with
students about the different
medicines and instruments she
might need to use when a cow
is sick or injured.
Proper waste management is a
very important aspect of
farming and there are a
variety of ways to safely and
properly treat and dispose of
farm waste to protect the
environment. Students learned
about how the Peachey's waste
management pit is used to
properly manage and treat
farm waste.
Calves grow up to become
cows. The pens should face
east to have sunshine in the
morning to help the calves
get warm. Calves need water
and grain. The presenters
talked with the students
about raising calves and what
is involved
The combined
weight of two students equal
the average weight of a
newborn calf, which is
between 80-100 pounds. The
calf stays with the mother
for about 2 hours before
being separated to another
location.
